Day 3 of Snowed-In City

News

The snow is falling, roads are iced over, and we’re into day three of being snowed-in. Maybe. The sun is peeking out on occasion and windy conditions will help melt the snow, according to weather experts.
Gilmer County and Ellijay City road officials today shared their take on road conditions.
Dixie Tyler, secretary at the Gilmer County Road Department, said, “People that are getting out just ‘cuz they’re stir crazy are risking their lives and others.’”
Tyler said 17 men are out clearing as many county roads as possible but no firm list of today’s activities is in yet. Since Monday the crew has cleared Yukon, Craigtown, Boardtown, Old 5 S., Big Creek and Roy roads. She said, “We can’t do anything to dirt roads and we have problems getting up paved roads with steep hills.”

Karen Spivey, City Clerk for the City of Ellijay, said the mayor and two men are out clearing today. She took Orchard and Old 5 to work and everything was fine there and downtown.

“They’ve done a really great job at getting these roads clear,” Spivey said.
