Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson announces the 2010 statistics for the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office. For the year 2010, Sheriff’s deputies completed 74,446 incidents. Of these, 29,697 were calls for service and 44,749 were specific area checks. The Gilmer County 911 Center dispatched 99,484 incidents, which includes Sheriff’s Office, Ellijay Police, East Ellijay Police, Ellijay Fire, Gilmer County Fire and EMS calls for service.

Sheriff Nicholson notes that the year 2004, Gilmer Sheriff’s deputies answered 28,278 incidents, a difference of 46,168 incidents in 5 years.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division opened 737 felony cases and made 402 felony arrests. The detectives cleared 780 cases by arrest or by means other than by arrest. They ended the year with 1286 cases still under investigation

The Detention Center processed 3,013 people into/out of the jail, which almost doubles the number from 2008. The average daily inmate population ran at 106. The highest inmate count was at 142.

The Sheriff’s Court Services Division devoted 10,722 man hours to court security. They conducted 1,564 total inmate transports (including in county, out of county and out of state). Deputies scanned just over 132,476 visitors of the facility. Deputies from this division served 3,678 civil processes and 294 warrants. Over 700 warrant attempts were made. 205 additional man hours were spent operating security equipment during “after hours” meetings.

Sheriff Nicholson stated, “The most interesting fact about the 2010 statistics is that they are very similar to the 2009 stats. The highest increase we saw was in the number of civil processes we served. We did see an approximate ten percent decrease in burglaries which we attribute to our continued aggressive patrols.”

The above activities of the Sheriff’s Office were certainly not the only ones the Sheriff’s Office was involved in. However, Sheriff Nicholson states that these were the highlights.
