BOE Recognizes Teacher of the Year

Last Tuesday at the November 13th Gilmer County Board of Education (BOE) meeting, the Gilmer County BOE recognized Tracy Jenkins as its 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year.Jenkins, a 17-year teacher for Gilmer County Schools, currently teaches as a Remedial and Gifted English Language Arts teacher at Gilmer Middle School.

Before announcing the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year, Personnel Testing and CTAE Director for Gilmer County Schools Michelle Penland explained how unfortunately their could only be one Teacher of the Year, commenting on the amount of excellent candidates in Gilmer County. Every year, faculty members vote for a Teacher of the Year in each school in the Gilmer system and then a teacher is chosen to represent the entire district.

Other teachers this year winning the award at their schools included Ellijay Primary School Teacher of the Year Kathy Cobb, Ellijay Elementary School Teacher of the Year Angie Bookie, Mountain View Elementary School Teacher of the Year Laura Sharp, and Clear Creek Middle School Teacher of the Year Marianne Gudger.

“We want to recognize all of these fantastic teachers,”

Gilmer County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said.
