Gilmer High School wrestling head coach, Sam Snider breaks down the Bobcats’ holiday week tournament results. On Saturday we beat Allatoona 55-20, Woodland 41-22, and lost to Archer 43-21. I thought we wrestled well. In the Archer match, Daniel Bautista beat the state runner up, Samuel Bullard, and out of the six matches we won we beat several highly ranked wrestlers.

Johnie Flakes avenged a loss by beating highly ranked Wright . On Wednesday we will go to Parkview and it will be as tough a competition as you can find in Georgia.

We went to Woodward academy for five duals.

In round one we defeated Eacgles Landing 69-9. Mel Mosley had the throw of the match with a huge suplex for a pin at 138.

Round two we defeated Heritage 51-19. They were state runner up in duals to us last year and state champs in traditional. They had several good kids Daniel Bautista and Jaime Lopez had big wins.

In round 3 we faced Woodward Academy. The match began with several good wars and ended with Cameron Perry bumping up to 138 to face the returning state champ, Chandler Pyke. Cameron won with a last second reversal 3-2.

Round 4 we beat the house team 50-0.

In Round 5 we beat Locust Grove 53-12 as they chose to only contest 8 matches.
On the day we saw a lot of tough individuals.

Marcelino Lopez, Ty Reece, and Lucas went undefeated as freshmen. Daniel Bautista, Cameron Perry, Jaime Lopez, also went undefeated. Johnie Flakes went 4-1 with a loss when he was asked to bump up a weight against the returning state champ, Chad Pyke to help our team win the match. He wrestled well but came up short while still saving the team 2 team points.

We have not backed down from anyone so far and are getting better. After Wednesday we will have a good idea were we stand.

On Tuesday 11/27 we are hosted an intersquad scrimmage in the gym at 6:00. Our wrestling room will was open for visitors to come and see our new state champion board.

This board was made possible through the donations of North Georgia Physical Therapy, ETC, as well as United Community Bank. All former state placers are welcome to tour the facility. The sign is beautiful and a huge motivator for our kids.
