Gilmer BOA Suspends First 2013 Meeting

Featured Stories, News

The Gilmer County Board of Tax Assessors has suspended its first meeting of the 2013 year. The decision to suspend tonight’s BOA meeting was made after a majority vote was unable to be reached for the position of the 2013 BOA Chairman.

In tonight’s meeting, both Board of Assessors Mitchell Morgan and Tom Porter were nominated for the position, but because the board could not reach a majority vote on either nominee, the BOA had no choice but to approve to suspend its meeting.

The suspension of the meeting came on the suggestion of Gilmer County Chief Tax Appraiser Richard Lamb, who reading from code 48-5-298 of the Official Code of Georgia, stated,

“Tax Assessors shall elect one of its members to serve as chairman for each tax year. The elected chairman shall be the first order of business at the first meeting of the board for each tax year.”

Since the BOA’s first order of business must be to elect a new Chairman, the BOA was forced to suspend its entire agenda for tonight until a later date.

FYN will bring you more from the meeting as soon as possible.
