Clear Creek “Cats” Perform Swimmingly

Two Gilmer County students competed in the Joe Gawry Southeastern Middle School Championship on January 19th, 2013. Clear Creek Middle School students Kaylin Woodring (7th grade), and Leila Farist (8th grade), competed, due to their USA Swimming affiliation, despite there being no official middle school swim team in Gilmer County.Both Woodring and Farist competed in the 50yd Freestyle, finishing 6th and 23rd respectively. There were a total of 136 swimmers competing in the 50yd Freestyle..

They also both competed in the 100yd Freestyle. Woodring finished 7th while Farist finished 13th. The 100yd Freestyle featured 102 swimmers.

Both Woodring and Farist swim with the Carpet Capitol Aquatic Club in Dalton year round. It is a Bronze level program with USA Swimming.

The Gilmer County Parks and Recreation Center offers swim competition during the summer as well s the Coosawatte Swim Team. While there is currently no year round swim team in Gilmer County, some Gilmer citizens are looking to change that.
