The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats wrestling team lost to Lumpkin Middle School, 48-28, in a dual match that saw five CCMS wresters score wins. Edvin Jacinto won by pin, worth six team points, at the 91lbs weight class. Chris Pruett got a major decision, more than seven match points win, (10-0) at 98. Grant Ledford scored a minor decision, (4-2), worth three team points, at 112.
Blake Buntin and Seth Jackson each scored pins at 120 and 128 respectively, with James Dover winning by decision (6-2) at 136.
Head coach, Walt Monroe, had this evaluation of the match and the preparation for the upcoming State Duals Middle School tournament.
“We came out and lost two matches early that we could have and needed to win. We had some eighth graders really step up and wrestle hard even in losses. We had to bump Evan Minter up to the 144 pound weight class to wrestle a good strong kid and Ryan Crump had to do the same thing at 175. Both fought really hard but it wasn’t enough tonight. Wrestling at State Duals this weekend, we are going to not give up so many pins and wrestle in good position. We emphasize this but we have too many wrestlers that are taking themselves out of matches by not maintaining good position until the last whistle. Our kids are coming to practice with good attitudes every day and working hard to get better. We have improved immensely this year but we must find a way to also get tougher. Lumpkin has a solid team and is well coached but I hope we get another shot at them this weekend. “
