Bobcats Breakout to 2-0 Start

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats and Bobcats tennis teams have begun the season in breakout fashion with a 2-0 start from both squads, with wins over Woody Gap and Fannin County High School.The Bobcats battled Woody Gap in the home opener, and due to the length of the trip to Woody Gap the teams played 8-Game Pro Sets for the all matches. The Lady “Cats” won 4-1 with the lone loss coming in the third singles.

Anna Westmoreland won first singles 8-0, and Ally Davis won the tie breaker 7-4 after splitting 8-8 in second singles. The first doubles team of Rachel Penland and Mattie Cagle won 8-2, while the second doubles team of Kali Malham and Chancey won 8-0.

The Bobcat boys swept Woody Gap. Dusty Ray won in first singles with a 7-4 tie breaker, and Isaac Hensley won 8-0 in second singles. The first doubles team of Joseph Hart and freshman, Riley Hice, took the first doubles 8-1. The “Cats” claimed forfeits in third singles and second doubles.

The “Cats” clobbered the 515 northern neighbor Rebels, with the Lady “Cats” claiming a sweep, and the boys taking a 3-2 win.

Westmoreland and Kaylor won in three sets, (6-0, 4-6, 6-2). Davis took second singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, and Torianna Olson took third singles in straight sets as well, (6-3, 6-0).

Penland and Cagle and Malham and Davis won first and second doubles in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) and (6-1, 6-1). Jenna Parks with Hannah Thomas also won the exhibition match, (8-2).

The boys took wins in third singles, via Hensley’s straight set (6-2, 6-3) win and a first doubles wins from first team, Ross Henderson and Mel Mosley and second team Joseph Hart and Hice.
