Amicalola EMC Awards $125,000 in College Scholarships

4 Washington Youth Tour delegates selectedAmicalola EMC held its annual youth awards banquet on March 20, 2014. CEO Charles Gibson and the board of directors awarded college scholarships to 125 deserving students from Cherokee, Dawson, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens counties. All scholarships are funded using unclaimed property, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 44-12-236.

A crowd of approx. 375 attended the banquet, including high school juniors and seniors, their parents, school administrators, Amicalola EMC staff members and board of directors.

Mary Jo Brooks of Gilmer High, Andrew Haygood and Laiken Owens of Pickens High and Carley Stamps of Lumpkin High were named 2014 Washington Youth Tour delegates. In June, they will join 1400 other students from Georgia and across the nation for the national Washington Youth Tour, a weeklong leadership experience.

Amicalola EMC continues to support our youth, our schools and our communities. We’re extremely proud of the accomplishments of these high school students and wish them every success as they continue their education.
