Gilmer County Chooses Roll-back Rate

Featured Stories, News

The Gilmer County Board of Commissioners advertised that they would be rolling back the millage rate this year. The exact figure won’t be set in stone until the digest is received and the Board of Education releases their millage rate.

“What we are proposing is to go to the roll-back feature and this will give us an actual net decrease in overall taxes. It will be a slight millage increase, but it will be a slight decrease in overall taxes of .366 percent and $29,639 decrease in the overall taxes.”

Each year, the Board of Tax Assessors is required to review the assessed value for tax purposes of all the property in the county. This year the total assessed value decreased from $1,273,420,701 in 2013 to $1,252,588,116, a difference of $20,832,585.
