Memorial Donation Supports Summer Program

Community

School Nutrition Director, Linda Waters, recently received a donation to the Seamless Summer program.Ms. Waters has reported a great support effort from the community as all but two sites are run by volunteers. As pictured, many volunteers themselves drive to the Middle School to pick up the food and transport it to their locations.

One citizen, however, took it further after reading a news article about the program.

Local resident Mary Virginia Fuller was so impressed that she called Ms. Waters saying she wanted to make a contribution to the program in memory of her special friend Mary Alice Ray who passed June 2, 2015.

Ms. Waters has stated she will use the donation to buy jump ropes and other equipment for the students to utilize as they come for their meals. She spoke about how the volunteers at the locations also read to these children and play with them stating,

“It’s not only a meal service program, but it’s also service to the children.”
