Book-A-Librarian

Are you wondering what to read next? Or maybe you need help getting started with your e-reader.  Do you need help researching a topic? Would you like a tour of the library? You might need to Book-A-Librarian. The Book-A-Librarian service allows you to reserve a free, 30-minute session with a librarian on Monday or Thursday between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Please call the library for more details.

Canning & Preserving
Thursday, August 27 @ 6:00 PM
UGA County Extension Coordinator Renee Dotson will present how to can and preserve your fresh foods, and how and why you want to do this safely. Light refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Gilmer Library.

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, September 2 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit or crochet, come for the fun! If you are unable to attend a meeting, that’s ok. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color.

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

Need inspiration for dealing with all the zucchini landing at your door?  Too many tomatoes?  We have plenty of cookbooks for you this week in the Bookshelf.  You’ll find ideas for preserving foods as well as delicious recipes to make and freeze.

Don’t forget to pick up a stash of magazines for road trips, a true bargain at $.25 each.  Magazines are displayed on the rack outside the Bookshelf and in the non-fiction “back room” as well.

Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays.
