Updated: Gilmer County Public Safety Reports Chlorine Spill

News

Gilmer Fire hazardous material techs prepare to enter into building to assess and control a hazardous chlorine spill off of Progress Road.

FYN has learned from the Gilmer County Fire Chief Tony Pritchett that the Hazmat crew made entry into the wastewater treatment facility building and the chlorine leak was from a faulty chlorine filter. The leak has been stopped and the chief stated there was no further contamination.

Earlier in the day when the leak was detected the Gilmer County Public Safety evacuated nearby buildings and alerted people in the outdoor area along the river.
