Clear Creek Bobcats, Lady Cats Finish 10th at Marietta Invitational

The Clear Creek Middle School track team started the 2016 season off on the right foot, with an impressive showing at the Sixth Annual Marietta Invitational last Saturday.

Both the Bobcats and Lady Cats tallied enough team points to finish 10th overall.

For the Bobcats, Jakob Dobbs turned in a time of five minutes, 24 and 75-hundredths of a second (5:24.75) for seventh-place in the 1,600-meter event, which is the second-fastest time in CCMS history. Dobbs later ran an 11:59.66 in the 3,200-meter run.

C.J. Streicher took third-place in the triple jump, with a distance of 34 feet, nine and a half inches (34′ 9.5″). seventh-place in the boys 100-meter dash, with a time of 12 and 30-hundredths of a second (12.30). In the shot put, he took eighth with a distance of 34′ 8″.

Streicher also joined Hunter Waldrep, Joshua Barker and Nathan Jones for a ninth-place finish in the 4×100 relay, with a time of 51.67.  Nate Mooney and Connor Mohon subbed for Waldrep and Barker in the 4×400 relay and the contingent placed seventh, with a time of 4:22.41.

Mohon took ninth in the 800-meter dash, with a time of 2:34.42. He also placed 20th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 21.69.

Mooney took 11th in the 800-meter dash, with a time of 2:34.91. He also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, placing 14th with a time of 54.61. Barker placed 15th in the 1,600 with a time of 5:45.11. He later ran a 2:41.44 in the 800-meter dash, which was good for 19th place.

Preston Masenthin took 13th in the 1,600 with a time of 5:41.13 and 10th in the 3,200 with a time of 12:44.77. Nathan Jones took 17th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 20.54. He also took 29th in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 13.66.

Nick Jones took 18th in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 56.41. He also competed in the high jump event, placing 10th with a height of 4′ 10″. Jonathan Johnston placed 21st in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 22.48. Later in the 300-meter hurdles, he placed 20th with a time of 59.56. In the long jump, he placed 26th with a length of 12′ 11″.

Hunter Waldrep placed 25th with a time of 13.37 in the 100-meter event, before running a 27.60 for 23rd place in the 200-meter dash. Later in the long jump, he finished 19th with a leap of 14′ 2″. Cole Ellis took 33rd in the shot put, with a length of 18′ 4.5″ and 28th in the discus, with a length of 56′ 6″.

Landon Pike placed 40th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 32.38 and 27th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.43.

Douglas Danforth placed 36th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.07. Ethan Crosby ran a 1:23.05 for 38th in the 400-meter dash, while Travis Reeves finished 39th in the same event with a time of 1:24.36.

Timothy Leonning took 15th in the triple jump, with a leap of 30 ‘1″. Darryl Carpenter finished just behind him in the same event, with a 17th-place jump of 26′ 1″. Evan Sanford took 31st in the shot put, with a length of 20′.

Joseph Goodwin tied with Ty Lambert in the discus throw, as both took 20th place with lengths of 67′ 7″. Cameron Goodwin placed 36th in the long jump, with a distance of 10′ 9″.

Naomi Coombs won the 3,200-meter race for the Lady Cats, with a time of 12:22.42.  She later joined Isabel Crosby, Haley Wilson and Marlee Chadwick in the 4×400 relay event and the team took 13th, with a time of 5:19.01. Coombs ran a 1:05 split, which is the second-fastest in CCMS history.

In the shot put, Dinah Bragg placed second with a distance of 31′, which is the second-best in school history.

Rachel Bennett participated in both the 200 and 400-meter dash events, with a 10th-place time of 1:14.03 in the 400 and a 28th-place time of 32.65 in the 200.

Bennett later joined Jayd Hamby, Wilson and Chadwick in the 4×100 relay event, with a 16th-place time of 1:01.59. Marisa Boland and Ardyn Weaver switched out with Wilson and Chadwick in the 4×400 event, allowing the Lady Cats to take 10th in the event with a time of 5:08.60.

Weaver placed fifth in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:41.13. In the long jump, she took 27th with a length of 8′ 8.5″. Boland placed 17th in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:16.32.

Crosby took 12th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 23.21. She also placed 19th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.50 and 26th in the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 7:09.

Wilson placed 16th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 28.10 and 17th in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:09.90. In the 100-meter dash, Hamby took 31st with a time of 15.60, while Chadwick captured 14th place in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:05.32.

Jocelyn Birko took 13th in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 23.80 and 35th in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 34.75. In the long jump, she placed 19th with a distance of 19′ 6″. Tori Hughes placed 14th in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 15:48.35 and 30th in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:27.23.

Sarah Hoek took 17th in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 18:49.50. Cadence Mohon took 33rd in the 800-meter run, with a time of 3:53.85, while Abrianna McCollum took 37th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 16.31,

Angel Guidry took 19th in the shot put, with a length of 19′ 9″, while Lexi Philips placed 21st in the same event with a distance of 19’.

“I thought we did really well for our first meet of the season,” said Clear Creek head coach Tommy Jones. “We are a young team, with a lot of first year track and field athletes. Despite that, we competed hard and I believe that we will build from this and have a very successful season.”

CCMS will host Lumpkin today for a meet at 4:30 p.m., before heading to Commerce Saturday for the Junior Eagle Invitational.
