The Gilmer High School track team picked up a rare Ellijay victory over a Cartersville sports team last Wednesday, as the Bobcats toppled the Hurricanes 60-50 and the Lady Cats garnered a 64-40 victory.
For the Bobcats, Kell Kiker took first place in the pole vault, reaching a height of 11′. He also won the triple jump competition, recording a leap of 38′ 8″. Later, he placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.50.
Griffin Cagle won the 100 and 200-meter dashes, crossing the finish line with respective times of 11.90 and 23.90. He also claimed third place in the long jump, with a leap of 17′ 8″.
Joshua Teague won the 300-meter hurdles event, with a time of 49.40. He also took third place in the 1,600-meter run, posting a time of 5:05.
Carlos Cruz won the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 4:53. He also placed second in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 11:08.
Andrew Edmondson won the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:03.70. Bryson Masenthin finished third in the same event, with a time of 2:10.
Greg Engler won the discus throw competition, recording a length of 103′ 10″. Luke Stolz won the 3,200-meter run, recording a time of 10:33, while Drake Crump finished second in the triple jump, with a leap of 33′ 8 1/2″.
Austin Masenthin finished second in the pole vault, recording a height of 8′ 6″. He seized the same finish in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 58.40.
Carson Masenthin took second place in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:08.60. He also claimed third place in the pole vault, reaching a height of 8′.
For the Lady Cats, Raven Sparks won the discus throw event, recording a distance of 100′ 2″. She later took second in the shot put, with a throw of 30′ 5 1/2″.
Katie Kiker won the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:39, while Samantha Buntin took second place in the discus throw, hurling a distance of 73′ 2″.
Lauren Bentley won the high jump event, reaching a height of 5′ 2″. She also triumphed in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 30.10.
Karla Cantrell won the triple jump competition, leaping a distance of 31′ 8″. She also took first place in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:06.30 and claimed victory in the 300-meter hurdles, after posting a time of 49.90.
Grace Pleasant won the long jump event, recording a length of 14′ 8 1/2″. She also won the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 14:37 and finished second in the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 6:12.
Carolina Teague won the 100-meter hurdles event, turning in a time of 19.10. She also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 54.40.
Olivia Thompson placed second in the triple jump, with a distance of 29′. She also claimed the same spot in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 14.40 and she finished third in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:49.
Raiven Pierce was the lone girls pole vaulter, reaching a height of 6′ 6″. She also claimed third place in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:14.70.
In relay events, Gilmer took first in both the girls and boys 4×400 relay events, with respective times of 4:33 and 3:46.90. GHS also took second in both the girls and boys 4×100 events, finishing with respective times of 54.10 and 46.60.
Gilmer also staked claim at a victory in a tri-meet at Southeast Whitfield March 15. The Bobcats scored 88 points to topple second place Cass (73 points) and Southeast (41). Meanwhile, the Lady Cats tallied 71 team points, while Cass scored 63 and Southeast garnered 52.
