Gilmer County swimmer Payton Woodring ventured to Fort Myers, Fla. during the weekend of June 4, to participate in the Southern Zone Open Water meet in the Gulf of Mexico at Lynn Hall Memorial Park.
Woodring was one of 24 swimmers from the state of Georgia that was chosen to attend the event and she took full advantage of the opportunity.
In the 1.25K 11-12-year-old race, Woodring finished 12th out of 25 swimmers in the event by posting a time of 21 minutes and two seconds (21:02). Later, she joined three other swimmers in a Team Pursuit race, where the third finisher for a team determines the team placement. Woodring, along with Eden Troxel, Sarah Janacova and Zahra McIntosh captured sixth place in the event.
