The Clear Creek Recreation Complex hosted the 2016 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 5 14U baseball tournament Saturday, which featured just two teams: Bartow and Gilmer.

In a doubleheader, Bartow claimed the district crown with a 9-3 victory in game one and a 13-1 win in game two.

Game One

Gilmer struck first in the opening game, pushing a run across in the bottom of the second after Jace McClure singled to score Ronald Pierce.

Bartow replied in the top of the third, when a leadoff error led to two back-to-back RBI singles to begin the frame. Later with one out, another single widened the Bartow lead to 3-1.

Bartow extended its advantage in the top of the fourth, with a one-out RBI single and another run coming across following a strikeout throw to first.

Jacob Rhodes cut into the Bartow lead in the bottom of the fourth, giving Gilmer a 5-3 deficit to overcome after singling to bring Jess Buckner and Alex Snelgrove home. Bartow got one run back in the top of the fifth, after a leadoff walk came home on a double.

The game was put away in the top of the sixth, when Bartow scored on a one-out single, a two-out double and an error. Gilmer failed to reply in the bottom portion of the inning and the time limit expired, giving Bartow the  victory.

Game Two

Playing as the away team in game two, Gilmer wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Alex Snelgrove produced a one-out RBI single that scored Corbin Singleton.

Bartow let Gilmer enjoy its lead briefly, tying and then taking the lead in the same at-bat in the bottom of  the first. The scoring came with one out, as a run scored on a errant pickoff throw and an RBI single.

Bartow then plated eight runs in the bottom of the second, building a pile of insurance in the process. After the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, back-to-back RBI triples widened the lead to 4-1. A pair of fielding errors later widened the lead to 6-1, before a balk brought home another run. An error, a double and a triple all ran the Bartow advantage up to 10-1.

Bartow rounded out its offense in the bottom of the third, with a two-out double that plated two more runs. Gilmer failed to take advantage of a leadoff single in the top of the fourth and the game was called due to run differential, giving Bartow the victory and the championship.
