Students Are Appreciated at MEC
Mountain Education Charter High School celebrates its Student Appreciation event February 14 to March 1. Not only is it a time for MEC to reregister students who have not attended regularly, but it is also a time to recognize all MEC students. Events like Chic Fil A Night, Game Time, and a Wing Eating Contest are held throughout the weeks. Students have the opportunity of winning gas cards through their participation. MEC provides the classes, and the support and encouragement, to students who want to earn a high school diploma in a non-traditional setting. Fannin High School students can also choose to make up classes at MEC for a fee. MEC meets regularly Monday through Thursday, 4-8pm at Fannin Middle School.
Mountain Education Career Shadowing
Charity Jones, a Mountain Education Charter High School junior, is interested in being a dental hygienist. One way to “test the waters” to see if this career is for her is to shadow a professional for the day. Christy McGill from the Blue Ridge Dentistry was willing to allow Charity to follow in her footsteps and to experience the duties and responsibilities of a dental hygienist. Charity appreciated the real life opportunity.
MEC Student of the Month
Zachary Patterson is Mountain Education Charter High School’s February Student of the Month. Zach is a senior who is ready to graduate. He has been working hard to complete his classes and plans to continue working after he graduates. Zach has found the teachers at MEC to be supportive and patient. He especially is grateful to Mrs. Dyer for her help. As always, we want to thank our sponsors who allow us to reward the efforts of our Students of the Month through their donations: ETC, Chick-fil-A in Ellijay and Blairsville, Blue Ridge Papa’s Pizza, Blue Ridge Dairy Queen, Georgia Technical College and Blue Ridge Adventure Wear.
