Mr. David Vernon Lakes, age 78 of Ellijay, GA passed on Wednesday evening, April 26th, 2017.

Mr. Lakes was born April 15th, 1939 in Brookville, IN. He was a graduate of Brookville High School, received his Bachelors at Ball State University and his MBA at Xavier University. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. David was retired from the banking industry and served as president of several banks in Indiana. He was a vet mentor for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit Court, Stephen’s Minister at Cherry Log Christian Church, and an avid member of the Creepy Crawlers golf league. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Lakes and Hattie Price Lakes and his brother Bill Lakes.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Carolyn Sue (Thompson) Lakes ; Daughter And Son-in-law, Stephanie And John Habermann of Waco, TX; Son And Daughter-in-law, Todd And Heather Lakes of Atlanta, GA; Grandchildren, Holli And Joseph Habermann , Finn, Riley And Kellen Lakes; sisters and brothers-in-law: Marsha And Earl Fischer of Burlington, KY, Barbara And John Engle of Sunman, IN; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph And Dee Lakes of Mansfield, OH, Gary And Mindy Lakes of Harrison, IN; Sister, Bonnie Krauth of Hamilton, OH, Brother and sisters-in-law, Richard And Tami Abner of Hamilton, OH, Gail Sands of Elkhart, IN; Several Nieces, Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 29th, 2017 from the Cherry Log Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Charles Walls officiating. Military rites will immediately follow the service and will be performed by the US Marine Corp. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cherry Log Christian Church, P.O. Box 289, Cherry Log, GA 30522 in memory of Mr. Lakes.

    David was a member of our Creepy Crawlers seniors golf group at Whitepath. I regret hearing the news David has passed on, but he’ll be remembered by his golfing buddies. RIP
