Mr. John Boyd Burnette, age 83 of Ellijay, GA passed Friday evening, June 23rd, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Burnette was born December 10th, 1933 in Cordova, AL to his late parents Jodie and Vida Mae Shaddix Burnette.  He was a graduate of Maiden High School in Maiden, NC and attended CVTI Tech for two years in Catawba, NC.  He served honorably in the US Army during Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart medal.  Mr. Burnette worked as a landscaper and gardener.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Melverine Southern Burnette, daughter, Tammy Josephine Burnette, and son, Brian Burnette.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Chris Cochran of Ellijay, GA, Valerie Ann and Rev. Tommy Sanford of Ellijay, GA and Kimberly Burnette of Holly Springs, GA; grandchildren, Jonathan Sanford, Sarah Morris, Brittany Thornton, Lance Ogle, Brooke Cochran, Remington Dixon, Abbi Dixon and Blakely Cochran; nine great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois and Charles Thomas of Homosassa, FL, Shirley Burnette of Satellite Beach, FL and Diane Burnette Indiatlantic, FL; brother, Leon Burnette of Newton, NC, special friends, Doug Story and Andre’ Roy also survives.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, June 27th, 2017 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitchell Pack officiating.  Music and vocals will be by the Nicholson Family.  A military graveside service will immediately follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military graveside rites performed by the North GA Honor Guard.  Interment will follow in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Lance Ogle, Remington Dixon, Mitchell Griggs, John Glaze, Jonathan Thornton and Jonathan Sanford serving as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from 4pm until 9pm on Monday, June 26th, 2017 at the Logan Funeral Home.
