UNG and Gilmer County Charter Schools to Hold Upward Bound Signing Celebration

The University of North Georgia (UNG) and Gilmer County Charter Schools will hold a signing celebration of the Gilmer High School Upward Bound program on Thursday, July 27 at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the Administration & Technology Office (ATO) at the Gilmer County Charter Schools offices, 134 Industrial Blvd., Ellijay, GA, 30540.

UNG President Bonita Jacobs and Gilmer County School Superintendent Shanna Wilkes will offer opening remarks.

UNG has been awarded a total of $2.6 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Education’s Upward Bound Program to help promising low-income high school students prepare for college.

Through Upward Bound, UNG will provide mentoring, parent engagement, state assessment preparation, career exploration, cultural experiences and college visits to each high school participant of the program.

The Upward Bound Program is a federally funded TRIO program designed to provide academic, cultural and social experiences for eligible students enabling them to develop the skills, attitudes and motivation necessary to enter and succeed in college.
