The Junior Varsity Bobcats traveled to Pickens on Monday to face off against the Dragons in game one of a season ending 2 game set. The Cats dugout was full of excitement as the Coaches met with the umpires and exchanged line ups.
The Bobcat bats started fast putting lead off batter Tyler “Rocket ” Wright and #2 hitter Jess Buckner on the base pads to no avail. The Cats went scoreless in the top of the first. The zero in the board was broken in the second inning with one run. Christian Cash reached on an error by the Dragon’s first baseman to get things started for the Bobcats with Jase McClure(error), Zach Miller(single) and designated hitter Ronald Pierce(walk) loading the bases but were unable to put anymore across the plate in the inning. The Cats added two more in the fourth giving them three runs on the board.
The Dragons added three runs of their own over the next three innings with the help of a faultering Bobcat’s defense making the score 4-3 heading in to the top half of the seventh inning. In the seventh, the Cats took advantage of the sixth pitcher on the day for the Dragons tapping him for four hits including a double, one walk and scoring three to take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With one last chance for the Dragons, the Bobcat s allowed one base runner and shut down any hopes of late inning heroics closing out the win for the Bobcats.
With this victory, the JV Bobcats are sitting at 7-8 on the season with one final game on Friday, The Dragons of Pickens will travel to the home of the Bobcats starting at 5:00 pm.
