Lady Cats Win Big On Senior Night

Team FYN Sports

Thursday afternoon had the fans and family join together to celebrate 5 Lady Cats seniors in their last high school home game. Makayla Chambers, Allison Sirmans, Mallory Kiser, Hannah Bennett and Sarah Mosley were recognized before the game for their dedication to Lady Cats softball for the past four years.  Some had tears for family that had passed and all had smiles for the memories of their high school careers with the Lady Cats and of course Coach Al and Coach Kim Charles.

The Dragonettes were completely shut down through out the game.  Hannah Bennett took the circle for Gilmer and pitched a gem by throwing only 49 pitches and allowing only 3 hits to the Pickens hitters.  The offense for the Lady Cats was definitely a different story with an explosion of runs in the bottom of the first inning.  On 8 hits, 2 walks and 3 being hit by pitch, Gilmer blasted their way to 10 runs.  Gilmer added 2 more insurance runs to the board in the third to complete the Georgia High School mercy rule victory. Being the last home game for the 5 Lady Cats seniors this win was sweeter than most and it involved beating their Hwy 515 rival.  With 12 hits in the game several had a multi hit day.  Seniors Mallory Kiser was 2-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, Sarah Mosley- 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, Allison Sirmans- 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the 12-0 win.

Coach Kim Charles is facing the tough decision to keep coaching or say good by after 30 years of walking on to the field with her teams.  After the game Charles said she was proud of these girl for finishing the game.  The entire line up for the Lady Cats played well and sent the seniors out on a great note in their last home game.

The Lady Cats will travel to River Ridge on Monday for a 5:30 PM start time.
