It’s that time of year again: leaves are falling, the weather is getting colder, and basketball season is upon us. With the start of the basketball season comes the annual ETC Tipoff Tournament, held at Fannin High School. This tournament pits some of the best schools in north Georgia against each other, as the boy’s and girl’s varisty teams of Copper Basin, Fannin, Gilmer, and Pickens all fight for the right to say that they are the best team around. The Gilmer Lady Bobcats kicked off the festivities with a matchup against the Pickens Dragonettes. Gilmer able to match the Dragonettes early on in the game, but Pickens just had too much for the Lady Bobcats, leading to a disappointing 40-32 loss for Gilmer. Junior Brittany Lowman led Gilmer in scoring with eleven points, and sophomore Britton Farlow led the team with eight rebounds.
