“For what is a man profited, if he should gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26
Our Father in Heaven, this piercing question of Jesus penetrates to the very depths of our souls. Help us to pause in the midst of the mad rush and ponder it. We live in a society that is geared to getting rather than giving , to storing up on earth rather than in Heaven, to acceptance with men rather than with you and to self advancement at all cost-not really counting the true cost.
In an age of acute materialism we need to have spiritual values reclaimed from the closet and focused on our very beings. Teach us, O God, that we are very temporal and all that is gained here will be left behind, and all that is stored up in Heaven will remain throughout eternity.
If this person who seeks you now is a spiritual pauper, would you make known to him the riches of grace that are available through Jesus Christ our Lord.
