Gilmer Goes 2-0 as Both Bobcats’ Beat Raiders Ruthlessly

Gilmer High Schools Lady Bobcats and Bobcats’ basketball teams traveled to Southeast Whitfield to take on the Lady Raiders and Raiders respectively. Both basketball teams bounded out of the building with wins, as the Lady “Cats” clawed to a 55-39 win, and the Bobcats lambasted the Raiders 90-66.The Lady Bobcats played a sluggish back and forth foul filled first half; that ended with Gilmer up 26-23 at the half time.

The Lady “Cats” roared on the defensive end in the second half, holding SE Whitfield to one point in the second quarter. Gilmer gave maximum effort on the glass, as Brittany Lowman, finished with a double double, (11 points, 12 rebounds), and Ansley Mulkey, who finished with eight rebounds, collected boards in the game like Park Brothers.

The Lady Raiders, winless on the season, did not score a second half field goal, until the game was clearly decided in Gilmer’s favor as the Lady Bobcats cruise to the 55-39 victory.

The Bobcats’ boys’ team blasted the Raiders almost immediately. After a game opening Gilmer 5-0 run, was answered with two quick baskets by the Raiders, the Bobcats closed out the quarter with a 19-0 run, including 10 straight points by fetchyournews.com POTW, Ryan Lowery who finished with a game high 36 points, along with 12 rebounds for the second double double of the night.

SEW rose to the occasion as the second quarter began, running off 9 unanswered Raiders’ points to cut the lead to nine, 24-13; however the Bobcats answered with an 8-0 run that put the visitors up by 19.

The Raiders simply no answer for Lowery on the inside, nor Joe Bob Charles on the outside, he hit three three’s on the night, and had a behind the back of the defender assist to Lowery that brought “oohs” and “aahs” from the visiting stands.

The second half featured the Bobcats pulling the starters midway through the fourth, as Gilmer coasted to the aforementioned 90-66 win.
