A NOTICE TO THE GILMER COUNTY PROPERTY TAXPAYER
Your Board of Assessors & Chief Appraiser would like to remind the Taxpayers of Gilmer County that now is the time to be filing a Real Property Return on Real Estate owned or a Business Personal Property Return, filing for Homestead Exemptions, Conservation Use Applications and Freeport Exemptions. The Deadline for filing is April 2nd of this year 2012. The Return form is to verify that we have the correct names, addresses and Fair Market Value Information: This is a tremendous help for the field appraiser who is required to re-visit your property and make any adjustments due to errors in characteristics and value. If you don’t state a reason or indicate a value, then, we don’t know what we are to be looking for. We need your input and help! For example: Your property could have been damaged by a Natural Act of God causing a lower value due to Physical Depreciation. We wouldn’t know this without your input!

To obtain the form you can go to the Assessors web site and print the appropriate form or visit the office. The web site is: gilmerassessors.com. Once the web site is open you can see the listings at the left column. Go to the forms button, press, and the page will change to where you can print the Gilmer County Real Property Return Form. Fill it out and forward to our office which the address is: 1 Broad Street, Suite 104, Ellijay, GA. 30540. Remember, this season is for Property Returns and filing for Exemptions. An Appeal Form is not accepted at this time of year that will come later. It is important you complete the correct form. If there any questions, please, don’t hesitate to call our office: 706-276-2742.

Thanking you in these matters!

Respectfully,

Richard L. Lamb
Chief Appraiser
