“Cats” Come Back Falls Short: JV Baseball Bobcats Fall to Fannin 8-6

The Gilmer High School Bobcats junior varsity baseball team traveled to Fannin County to take on the Rebels. The Bobcats, despite taking advantage of numerous errors by the home team, fell to Fannin 8-6.The Bobcats drew first blood with a stealing of home plate on an errant pitch in the top of the first inning. The Rebels tied the game in the bottom of the first.

The score remained tied until the top of the third inning when the Bobcats took advantage of several Rebels errors to score two runs. The first run of the inning came via an infield home run. A sure double turned into a home run following a multitude of overthrows.

The “Cats” led 3-1 after an error at third base resulted in a run scoring and a new ball being used due to the game ball ending up on the wrong side of the home team’s dug out.

Gilmer lost the 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third, when the home team ripped off five runs. Fannin found itself leading 6-3 going into the fourth.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the fourth; however, the Rebels answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on back to back RBI singles.

The Bobcats scored two mores runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh, but fell short in Fannin, as the Rebels held on for the 8-6 victory.
