Porter Says Resignation of Williams Probable at BOA Meeting

News

At a Board of Tax Assessors meeting tonight, Chairman of the board Tom Porter has announced that Jeff Williams will probably be resigning as a member of the Gilmer County Board of Tax Assessors. Porter made the announcement later in the meeting after explaining that he would like to table a motion to accept the board’s newly drafted Code of Ethics policy, because he wanted an entire board there to vote on the policy. Since Williams was not at the meeting, making the board shy of one member, Porter did not want to recommend the policy for approval.

“He has probably by now submitted his resignation,”

said Porter after saying he had had a conversation with Williams about his resignation earlier in the week.

Afterwards, Porter explained that the reason for Williams’ resignation was due to health issues.

“He’s doing fine, he’s going back to work, but he has lost two months worth of work this summer. There seems to be a good and valid reason,”

said Porter.

Porter then told the board that Williams had also said that in the future once he had got everything “straightened out” he would be open to serving as a board member again.

When asked by FYN if someone would be replacing Williams if he does resign from the board, Chief Appraiser Richard Lamb said,

“If we receive a letter that Mr. Williams is resigning from the board, yes there will be a recommendation to the governing authority for a replacement.”

FYN will bring you more news from the latest Gilmer County Board of Tax Assessors meeting as soon as possible.
