New Beginnings Church Pastor Steve Smith is excited to announce the grand opening of the new New Beginnings family community center on October 12th. Located at the the old location of Gilmer Golf and Games, Smith says he is turning the former family golf course into a new family oriented community center for the entire community of Gilmer County.

The idea says Smith, is not just for the new community center to serve just the youth of the New Beginnings Church, but to serve the whole community as well. He also says that with this being a nonprofit venture, all proceeds will go to help out the local organizations of the community.

The golf course at the community center already features two waterfalls, two large flower fountains, and lights so it can serve patrons at night, but Smith says new additions are coming to the former golf and games site that will be designed to bring fun not just to his church, but to everyone.

“The biggest reason we are doing this is so that the teenagers and the youth of Gilmer County will have a place they are welcome,”

says Smith, however, Smith hopes that everyone will come to the new center once remodeled.

Right now, some of the additions Smiths says that are already be made to the new center is the structure of a 20×20′ stage, that will be used for community country and classic rock concerts, and the construction of a 10′ fire pit for bonfires.

The grand opening of the new community center is scheduled for October 12th, where for just a $25 donation, a whole family will be able to play unlimited putt-putt for the night and have access to one of the two batting machines which can either be used by baseball or softball players.

Smith says the upcoming grand opening will also feature music from scheduled Atlanta classic rock performer Brent Macdonald, and a chance for families to win a 2013 Dodge Dart in a late night putting contest.

The putting contest will be held at 9:00 p.m. and 10 contestants will have their names picked to be in the event from a previously entered raffle. Then afterwards, following the grand prize giveaway, families will also be able to enjoy an outdoor family movie on a 9×12′ screen at 10:00 p.m.

After the grand opening, Smith says the community center hopes to stay open and provide more fun for the community. Along with a game room, and the installment of new pool tables, which are planned to be used for pool tournaments, Smith says he hopes the center will also be a nice place where football fans can come and watch the games.

By scheduling to be open in the afternoons Thursday through Sunday for the rest of the winter season, Smith says he hopes people of all ages will come and visit the new center. The new center is scheduled to be open on Friday and Saturday night until midnight, and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 7286 Hwy 515 North.
