Smuckers Recall Expanded

Yesterday, FYN reported that the Fannin County School District announced a voluntary food recall for Smuckers brand Uncrustables sandwiches sold over the past few months at Blue Ridge Elementary School, East Fannin Elementary School, West Fannin Elementary School, and Fannin County Middle School. Fannin County Nutrition Director announced today that the voluntary recall has been expanded to include sandwiches served at Fannin County High School between August 2011 and March 2012.The Sunland Inc. peanut butter used in certain 72-count bulk packages of Uncrustables has potential for salmonella contamination.

The impacted product is limited to 72-count bulk packs distributed in the foodservice channel
• The peanut butter was supplied through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service and was produced by Sunland, Inc., which has issued an expanded national recall of some of its products due to possible contamination with salmonella
• The Smucker Company did not manufacture the peanut butter
• The Smucker Company conducts microbiological testing on ingredients used in Uncrustables as well as finished product testing
• No other products of The J.M. Smucker Company are affected by this recall
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product but the company is nonetheless acting with an abundance of caution to protect consumer safety.
