An opinion and a thank you to the Gilmer GOP by George McClellan, Chairman, Gilmer County GOP.
For those of you not in shock and disbelief or in sustained mourning, I just want to say that we, here in Gilmer County, did our job and did it well. Doug Collins is now our 9th District Rep. in the House of Representatives and I e-mailed him my congratulations, but also telling him he could forget his campaign promises and turn his attention instead to participating in the stalemate and gridlock in the National Congress until we can reform, reorganize and change our colors. I also want to congratulate our own Tom Graves becoming the new 14th District Representative. Hang in there Tom! Your solid guidance is needed now more then ever.
I cannot praise the efforts enough of our own volunteers for their tireless efforts in supporting the Gilmer GOP organization for their efforts. They are:
Jim Conner, Ryan Boland, Rita Odom, Greg and Kelly Altman, Jerry Tuso, Don Murray, Sally and Phil Forest, June and Jerry Harrison, Bob and Zelda Morgan, Paul and Verdel Tatem,Pat Dearing, Pat and Gloria Maloney, Bill and Allison Craig, Jack and Joyce Smith and many more. These people carried signs on the streets, planted them around the county, rode buses to Florida, Ohio and Virginia on multiple occasions, maned phone banks, spent time in our GOP Campaign Office and sold a lot of badges, buttons, decals, shirts and hat. Well done everyone.
There are two possibly good outcomes for conservatives as a result of this election. First, we no longer have to fool ourselves that the National Republican Party has anything to offer when they are allowed to select for us moderate candidates without a conservative platform. Second, Second, we will now have at least two more years of gridlock during which time conservatives can turn their attention to the states and re-consider the ignored policy of “nullification.” The GOP now does have thirty Governors.
The GOP philosophy of moderation is one of proven failure (twice) and should be abandoned. Until yesterday's election, it could be said that America was demonstrably a center-right country and that American’s would actually rally to a solid conservative economic plan, clearly laid out, with a fair tax plan to go with it. It is now demonstrably a center-left country with the majority of voters holding the power to take your money. So, the GOP needs to clearly define the differences between a Capitalist America where everybody has a chance to succeed, where innovation is not stymied and wealth creation is available for all, and a Socialist society where everybody is made equal by government edict.
Well, the die is cast. There is no profit in looking back and wasting energy on accusations and acrimony about who’s to blame. Now we know what to do and we need to set about doing it. The election did not cancel our Constitution. It is simply being ignored by Obama. State nullification appears to be the best course now open to us. Obey the Constitution and it may save us yet. I have long been a believer in the axiom: “all politics are local.” We got a dose of that reality yesterday, especially with losing so many Senate seat opportunities.
All the best and don't lose hope.
George McClellan, Chairman,
Gilmer County GOP
Thank You
Leonard Murray
