3 Arrests Made For Chicken Fighting

From the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office:Sheriff Nicholson announces that three arrests have been made in an alleged chicken fighting ring. On Saturday, Nov. 10th, Gilmer County deputies responded to a complaint of alleged chicken fighting at the location of 5348 Old Highway 5 South. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered individuals inside a metal building which contained a chicken fighting pit. Deputies met with approximately 25-30 people and observed four fighting roosters, three of which were deceased and one severely wounded. Numerous officers responded due to the size of the crowd, including officers from East Ellijay PD and the Georgia State Patrol. Upon investigation by Gilmer county detectives, it was determined to be an active chicken fighting event which resulted in the arrests of three individuals: JEFFERY PATRICK HUNTER, age 54, DOMINGO TREJO GARCIA, age 23; and JOSE MATIAS ROMERO, age 46, all of Ellijay addresses. All three are charged with Cruelty to Animals but after further investigation, they could be facing more charges. Only those linked directly to the chicken fighting were arrested at this time, but the investigation continues and more arrests may be forthcoming.
