The Gilmer Bobcats and Lady Cats successfully defended their home court on the first day of the ETC Tipoff Tournament, as the Lady Cats obliterated Copper Basin 76-26 and the Bobcats prevailed 69-51.
The matchup between the girls’ squads turned ugly quickly thanks to a great first half by the Lady Cats. Sixteen first-quarter points followed by twenty-five second-quarter points gave Gilmer a 41-14 lead, and the rout was on.
The Lady Cats would outscore the Lady Cougars 35-12 in the second half of play on their way to a 76-26 victory.
Hannah Jones and Brittany Lowman ended the game with eleven points each. Megan Allen led the team in rebounds with ten. Three Lady Cats—Allen, Lowman, and Meghan Flowers—ended the game with four assists apiece.
Next up was the matchup between the Cougars and a Bobcats team that came out on a mission to make some noise in their first game of the tournament. The team did just that, taking control in the first quarter with a 24-9 run that put them in control for the rest of the game.
Copper Basin did their best to keep it close, but when it was all said and done the Bobcats got the victory with the final score of 69-51.
Joe Bob Charles led the Bobcats in scoring and rebounding with twenty-one points and seven rebounds, respectively. Following close behind in scoring was Connor Webber, who scored nineteen points a day off of playing in the Bobcats’ football playoff game.
The Lady Cats and the Bobcats will hit the court again on Monday in day two of the tournament. The Lady Cats will play the Fannin Lady Rebels at 6:00 with the Bobcats facing off with the Rebels at the conclusion of the girls’ game.
