EES Holds 2nd Annual STEM Family Challenge Night

Uncategorized

On November 15th, Ellijay Elementary School had their 2nd STEM Family Challenge Night held in the school cafeteria. STEM is the acronym given to the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Teachers at EES recognize the importance of exposing children early in life to these higher-order thinking areas of education.

Family groups consisting of at least one student and one adult family member were invited to complete a challenge assignment of making a small scale parachute using only a few given materials and ½ hour. Parachutes were then tested for target accuracy and hang time with donated awards given to the top three scorers. While STEM is the focus, the most important factors are the family interaction and having fun. Special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Terrebonne and East Towne Cinemas for their generous donations.
