Harvey Returns to Gilmer as CFO

Featured Stories, News

Commission Chair J.C. Sanford said today that Former Gilmer County CFO Faye Harvey has indicated that she will return to her position as Gilmer County Financial Officer as of January second. In September, Harvey resigned from Gilmer County to take a position as financial officer for Pickens County, filling a vacancy left by former Pickens CFO Mechelle Champion. Champion resigned abruptly in the midst of some controversial financial issues, including a $400,000 settlement with Young Life of Texas. During the commissioner’s meeting last night, Pickens County Sole Commissioner Robert Jones announced that Harvey has submitted her resignation and will serve her current role until December twenty sixth.

During the Gilmer County Commissioners’ meeting today, FYN asked Chairman Sanford, in light of Harvey’s recent resignation from Pickens County, if she would return to Gilmer County as CFO. After applause and a reluctant phrase by Sanford, the chairman said that Mrs. Harvey has indicated that she will return to her previous role as CFO with Gilmer starting January second. Sanford, however, did not indicate whether Harvey will retain her previous salary or not. When pressed, though, the chairman suggested that the county has the funds available for her return. However, the 2013 budget does not indicate adjustments reflecting the position.
