Thomas Eugene Thornton age 66, Of the Clear Creek Community, Ellijay, Georgia, passed suddenly Monday February 4th, at a local hospital.
Born on December 14, 1946, to his late parents Leland and Marjorie Scrimshaw Thornton, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Mr. Thornton, served his country honorably, with two tours in Vietnam, received several commandations, including s Purple Heart, for wounds received in combat. He was employed to work with at risk juveniles by the state of Florida. He was the present commander of the American Legion Post #82, located at 297 Legion Road, Ellijay, Georgia 30540, where in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 31 Years, Jill Wilkinson Thornton, of the home in Ellijay, Georgia, Daughter, Emilie Thornton and Son, Thomas Garrett Thornton, both of the home in Ellijay, Georiga, Granddaughter Taylor Thornton, Brothers; Robert Thornton of Watervliet, Michigan, Donald Thornton of Bonita Springs, Florida, Lynn Thornton of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
A military memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9th, at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion, with Rev. Glen Arnold Officiating, Aad William "Bill" Weldon and John Hannah speaking, with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corp and the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
