Homer Collie, 88, of Marietta, Georgia, died Friday March 8, 2013 and went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Homer was born on November 26, 1924, and married his beloved Mary Ruth Jones in 1944. He is preceded in death by his dear wife Mary, parents Newton & Bell Collie, four sisters and two brothers. In the early 1940’s, Homer helped to blaze many of Kennesaw Mountain’s hiking trails while working with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Homer was a master at driving 18-wheelers and operating large machinery. Two generations of children were touched through Homer’s school bus driving for Cobb County for 26 years. He loved to garden and share the bounty with friends, family & strangers who quickly became new friends. Mary and Homer served the Lord faithfully at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ellijay for many years.
Homer is survived by numerous family and friends, including his much loved Olive Childers, her husband Jim, and their four children, Michelle, Zach, Rebekah & John.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10th, from 5-7p.m. at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta.
Homer’s funeral will be Monday, March 11th, at 3:00p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1205 Mount Zion Road, Ellijay, Georgia 30536.The body will lie-in-state at the church from 2:30 until the funeral hour. Donations may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church or flowers sent to Marietta Funeral Home. Homer will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
