The Gilmer High School Tennis teams had a week of triumphs as the girls got their first victory over River Ridge and the boys shut out Towns County.
Issac Hensley, Will Like, and Dusty Ray swept thier singles matches against Towns on Tuesday, with the doubles teams of Ross Henderson with Mel Mosley and Joseph Hart with Levi Stolz sweeping the doubles matches.
Rachel Penland and Mattie Cagle also took Towns' doubles down, in two sets.
Head coach, Donna Parks was excited for her young team's success.
"Congratulations to the boys for their shut out,"
she said after the Towns take down.
Two days later the teams traveled to Woodstock to face River Ridge. The Lady "Cats" scratched victory for the first time this year.
Anna Westmoreland and Torianna Olson both won tie breakers in first and second singles, and the Penland Cagle team took first doubles.
The boys were shut out.
Parks addressed the challenges her team faces, being a young team.
All the girls are working hard at their experience even though they are young. They all played hard,
she said after the Towns games.
She also spoke about the difficulties the boys faced at River Ridge.
The boys had a hard time with the experience of the Boys River Ridge team; however, cheir Coach told me that every one of the boys plays
for the Tennis Association (Cherokee County M.A.T.C.H. Ladder) and they play tournaments year round. Our boys played well, but didn't
come out on top."
