Fallen Power Line Results in Loss of Life

Featured Stories, News

A fallen power line at Victory Circle in Ellijay on Wednesday afternoon resulted in the electrocution and death of a 19 year old female.
The incident occurred when a storm in the area caused a tree to fall at the residence, which knocked down the power lines at the house. The individual then stepped on the down power line at approximately 3:45 p.m. and was electrocuted. Upon seeing the individual fall and lay on the ground motionless, a 5 year old girl attempted to find a cell phone to dial 9-1-1 when two boys happened upon the scene, saw what had occurred, and made the call at 4:15 p.m.

Ellijay Police and Fire initially responded to the call and were assisted in the process by Gilmer County’s response team. The 19 year old was then taken to North Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:06 p.m.

GBI Medical Examiner Dr. Keith Lehman confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the individual’s death was a result of an accidental electrocution.
