“Kick Ass 2” Twice as Much Donkey Kicking

Opinion

While I know this is Fetch Football Friday, I also know that I could not leave my fellow nerds without a review of the ultimate nerd fantasy, “Kick-Ass 2.” I say the ultimate nerd fantasy, because that’s what it is. “Kick-Ass” is the tale of an everyday nerd who decides to become a real life superhero. “Kick Ass 2” is the story of how Kick Ass inspired more real life superheroes, and a slew of real life super villains, and of course real life consequences.By the way, yes I’m know I’m late, but I was busy last week, and money was tighter than superhero spandex. That being said, “Kick-Ass” two is literally twice as much donkey kicking. The story picks up after the events of “Kick-Ass;” with Dave abandoning the super hero life and his “Kick-Ass” companion, Hit Girl, tries to adapt to life without the mask.

SPOILER ALERT: Of course they end up putting the masks back on, it wouldn’t be a very good sequel if they didn’t don the costumes.

McLovin is back, but no longer “The Red Mist” as he is obsessed with becoming the first real “Super-Villain” and getting revenge on Kick ass for blowing up his father with a bazooka. McLovin becomes “The Oedipus Rex” and decides to put together an army of super villains, using his family’s ill-gotten wealth to fund his villainy.

Now it is quite difficult to review a nonfamily movie on a family site. THIS MOSVIE IS NOT FOR KIDS!!! There is just too much violence, and enough “filth flarn filth” to cause Richard Pryor “to have a coke and a smile” and well just google the rest. It is made for Fanboys and action lovers alike; speaking of fan boys,
SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHO STAN LEE IS, AND YOU’RE IN A COMIC BOOK MOVIE, YOU ARE EVIL.

Now of course, “Kick-Ass 2,” while providing many laughs, brawls and four letter words, is ultimately a movie about the real world consequences of tangling with criminals. As Kick Ass joins a team of other super heroes, inspired by him, he finds that out all too well.

SPOILER ALERT: Criminals are generally not nice people, and do not take kindly to those who interrupt their criminal enterprises.

While Kick Ass has joined a new team, Hit Girl struggles with trying to find out who Mandy McCready, her alter ego, is, while trying to navigate school, and appease her guardian, Marcus, ex-partner of her father.

SPOILER ALERT: Trained Assassin>Mean Girls, also with friends like that, who needs enemies (Talking to you Todd).

Overall I have to say, I loved “Kick-Ass 2.” It seemed that, with the strength of the first movie behind it, the sequel went for the gusto and put it all out there, and came away with an exhilarating, hilarious, action flick that’s just a joy to watch. Yes it’s violent and one of the main characters is an expletive; however, it’s wildly entertaining and just plain fun. There is a post credit scene so stay for that.
