Lady “Cats” Struck Out at “Strike Out” 5-4: Bitten by Bulldogs 6-1

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats softball team recently traveled to region rivals Pickens High School and Cedartown High School, falling in both games, 5-4 and 6-1 respectively.The Lady “Cats” first made the short trek down to 515 to Pickens High School to take on the Dragonettes in the home team’s annual “Strike Out Cancer” game, where both teams participated in a brief pregame ceremony to acknowledge all those that have been affected by cancer.

Neither team was able to produce any runs until the second inning when the “Nettes” scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The top of the third saw the Lady “Cats” pounce. Autumn Banks led off with a walk. After a fly out, Bailey Charles reached second via error, putting base runners on second and third.

Kaylee “TJ” Deyton’s two run standing double tied the game at 2-2. After Deyton stole third, and scored via an RBI sac ground out from Caitlin Coleman.

Skyler Banks solo home run gave Gilmer a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third; however the “Nettes” took the lead for good by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third holding on for the 5-4 win.

The Lady “Cats” next traveled to Cedartown to face the Lady Bulldogs. Cedartown took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady “Cats” caught up with an RBI single from Chancey Davis that scored Skyler Banks.

The Lady “Cats” could muster no more runs, while the Lady Bulldogs’ bats produced five more, securing the 6-1 victory for the home team. The Lady “Cats” will next face the River Ridge Lady Knights at home on Tuesday September 24th.
