The apple festival is just around the corner and Bill and Gina at Mack Aaron’s Apple House are in full swing of their preparation motions. FYN managed to get them to sit down just long enough to see what they were doing to get ready.
With so much to do and so little time, the Aaron’s start preparing by picking all of the possible varieties of apples and getting them bagged. While Bill does the harvesting, Gina is in the kitchen baking up a stock of their various pies. Bill said that they carry around 17 varieties of apples seasonally but have around 12 during the Apple Festival. Their top sellers include the September Wonder, the Golden Delicious, the Pink Lady and the Fuji apple.
Additionally, Bill and Gina have cider, peaches, canned products, peanuts, beef jerky, candies, honey, cookies, kitchen accessories and more than 14 types of pies, including some no sugar added pies for the sugar conscious people out there. FYN received three of these no sugar added pies, which were delicious!
This apple house is a family owned, third generation operated business.
“Many people like to see all of the different kinds of lunchboxes we have hanging on the walls. Those were placed there by my Dad”
said Bill. He also added that they grow all of their fruit and are planting new crop annually.
Mack Aaron’s has been located in their current location since the late 1970’s but the orchard is much older with O.S. Aaron establishing it. Bill and Gina hope that their 15 year old son will someday run the business but want him to go to college and get a good education first.
Without a doubt, Bill and Gina have their hands quite full in their preparation but their hard work will not go unnoticed if you stop by and visit for a pie, some cider and to sit a spell.
