Tillman Elder Pearce Jr., M.D., In Memoriam: Dr. Pearce, we your family and friends, would like to thank you for your service in the U.S. Air Force, we would like to express our gratitude to you on behalf of all whom you have helped, we would like to thank you for utilizing your God given intelligence to accomplish your medical objectives, we salute you for your courage and, for just being you.
Born in Columbus, Georgia on June 10th, 1930 to Tillman Elder Pearce Sr. and Marie Jones Pearce. He attended Darlington School in Rome, GA and Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where he earned his BA and Medical degrees. Dr. Pearce practiced General Surgery in most of the Atlanta area Hospitals, primarily and finally at St. Josephs and Northside Hospitals. At Emory he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and a member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. He was certified by The American Board of Surgery and a Fellow in The American College of Surgeons. Dr. Pearce completed one year of residency at Piedmont Hospital, two years residency at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, FL and was finally Chief Resident at Georgia Baptist Hospital. He was a member of The American Medical Association, Medical Society of Georgia, The Medical Association of Atlanta and The Atlanta Clinical Society. Dr. Pearce was a member of St. Phillips Cathedral in Atlanta Georgia. After retirement Dr. Pearce became a master Wood Turner spending many hours creating beautiful works of art. He was a member of The American Association of Woodturners and Apple Ridge Woodturners of Gilmer County. Dr. Pearce also enjoyed international travel. Dr. Pearce had a long and rewarding career that allowed him to help others in a meaningful way and this brought him great joy. He was a very selfless man who was always thinking of others. If you ever spent time with him you would know his hospitality immediately. Dr. Pearce had a great sense of humor and was famous for making others laugh. He was our family doctor and expert, helping his family and friends from diagnosis and treatment to being at our side when we needed him. He taught us anatomy and science, even his greatgrandchildren as toddlers.
Dr. Pearce found the most joy in life spending time with his beloved wife and family. He is survived by a large and loving family, his best friend of 50 years and wife Sandra Benton Pearce. Children, Tillman Elder Pearce III and Elizabeth Pearce Stephens and their mother, Nancy Simonsen Pearce. Also, Gail Holden Hilburn, Alexandra Grace Givens, and Frances Holden Tutt. Grandchildren Marc Elder Pearce, Paul Emile Pearce, Valentine Marie Pearce, Caroline Elizabeth Stephens, Amanda Michelle Stephens, Randal Frank Hilburn, Abigail Frances Tredway, Claire Alexandra Hilburn, Sandra Lillian Givens, Alexis Gail Givens, Marion Ashley Givens. Great Grandchildren Brinly Claire Tredway, Schyler Corbin Tredway, Landyn Adler Tredway, and Madison Rae Hilburn.

A Memorial Service will be held Sat December 7,2013 at 2:00pm at Bernhardt Funeral Home 163 River Street Ellijay, GA
Services will be performed by the Reverend George S. Yandell, from the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper, GA.
A reception will follow at the funeral home.
Interment will be Monday December 9th at 12:00 pm at Graveside in Linwood Cemetery Columbus, GA. Service performed by Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. pastor at First Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.
