The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team held its annual “Senior Night” celebration to honor 11 graduating seniors from the 2013-14 team. The ceremony took place during a home quad duals that saw the Bobcats sweep: The Fannin County High School Rebels (78-0); the White County Warriors (70-6) and the Sonoraville Phoenix (75-3). The wins come off the back of a rough weekend showing at the Cleveland Duals in Tennessee. The Bobcats lost to both Baylor (Tn.) (34-22) and Pope (Ga.) (28-35), but beat Roswell (Ga.) (42-20).
At the home quad meet Gilmer faced Fannin first, routing the Rebels 78-0. The match up saw a “family reunion” of sorts as Gilmer head coach, Sam Snider, saw both of his sons on the mat, Fannin head coach, Josh Snider, and the referee of the match, David Snider.
After the Fannin match the 11 seniors were honored.
The Bobcats next whitewashed the Warriors of White County, 70-6. The Bobcats had nine pins from: Daniel Puac, Lucas Patterson, Ethan “Tigger” Teague, Cameron Perry, Keegan Sharpe, Johnie Flakes, Matthew Waddell, Zach Allen and Levi Seabolt. Mel “The Fireman” Mosley scored a technical pin (15 or more match points).
The last of opponent of the day was the Phoenix of Sonoraville. Charles and Xavier and the X-Men could not stop save the Phoenix from the Bobcats’ pinning paws. The “Cats” claimed a 75-3 victory. Six Bobcats scored pins: Domingo Reynosa, Perry, Mosley, Sharpe, Tyler Bertolini, and Seabolt. Flakes scored a “tech.”
The win meant the “Cats” lost a total of two matches out of a possible 42. The “Cats” next match up will be at the “Friday Night Fight” duals tournament at Union High School, Friday December 20th.
