Loy Sanford Davenport, 81 of Cherry Log, Georgia passed on Sunday evening, January 26, 2014, at Gilmer Nursing Home in Ellijay, Georgia.
Mr. Davenport was born on February 22, 1932 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to his late parents Virgil Roman and Lola Jane Aaron Davenport. He was a member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church and the owner of Davenport Logging. Loy is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beatrice Alsobrook Davenport, brothers, Toy and Hoyt Davenport, and Gene Stanley, and sisters, Peggy Alsobrook and Donna Lee Patterson.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane Davenport Bailey and Jerry Norton of Cherry Log, GA; son and daughter-in-law Dwayne and Linda Davenport of Cherry Log, GA; grandchildren, Emily Davenport, Shelly Davenport, and Lynn Higdon; sister, Ruth Leatherwood; and special friends, Wayne and Shirley Sluder of Ellijay, GA also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 30th, 2014 at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Rev. James Worley, Rev. Tony Gilbert, and Rev. John Newton officiating. Music and vocals will be by the Rock Creek Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Harold Norton, Van Rymer, Ronnie Herndon, David Alsobrook, William Cantrell, Charles Young, Mark Hice, Bryan Roper, and Avery Hice. Graveside interment will follow in the Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014, at Logan Funeral Home. Mr. Davenport will lie-in-state from 1:30PM until 2:00PM at the Rock Creek Baptist Church.
