“Cats” Claim Dirty Dozen

The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team can claim 12 “Cats” going to the State Traditional Tournament, which decides the state champions for each weight class. The “Cats” took 13 wrestlers to the Sectionals Tournament, which decides participation and seeding in the State Tournament. The top eight place winners at Sectionals move on to the State Tournament. The “Cats” had 12 wrestlers make the top eight, and one ninth place finish, which is the first alternate if an injury happens.Five Gilmer wrestlers made the Sectionals finals, with securing number one seeds with first place finishes. Alberto Perez, Daniel Baustista, and Johnie Flakes finished first at 106, 120, and 152 respectively.

Marcelino Lopez and Levi Seabolt finished second at 113 and 285 respectively.

Four Bobcats secured third place finishes: Cameron Perry (132); Jamie Lopez (145); and Tyler Bertolini (220).

Zack Allen and Mel Moseley finished fourth and fifth at 195 and 138 respectively.

Dusty Lacy finished seventh at 126, and Nick Windsor was the ninth place finishe at 182.
