The County once had an employee with this function. She was one of the first casualties when cutbacks began. Perhaps the problem was that she was a County employee, which leads to the need for making this position one that isn't subject to County personnel restrictions (even though the County will be paying part of the salary).
I happen to believe that the former employee did the best job that could have been done under the circumstances, and I applaud the approach being taken by this group, making the position subordinate to the entire community, rather than to one of the political jurisdictions.
The members of the Catalyst Group have done an amazing job of identifying strengths and weaknesses and then developing a plan for long term success for Gilmer County. I am proud to endorse this plan and look forward to its implementation.
