Gilmer Goes 1-1 vs. Region Rival

The Gilmer High School Bobcats Tennis teams face off with the region rival, Pickens High School Dragonettes and Dragons, splitting the matches, with the boys winning 3-2 and the girls falling by the same score.The Bobcats’ boys experienced the first win over their region rival for the first time in anyone’s high school career, as Pickens has not lost to Gilmer in over four years.

Will Luke won in the second doubles match, (2-1) and Dusty Ray claimed a win in third singles match by the same score. The second doubles team of Joseph Hart with Levi Stolz got the third win in second doubles, by winning the last two sets to secure the Bobcats’ victory.

The Lady “Cats” came close; however, wins from Hannah Colwell, in second singles, and the first doubles team of Rachel Penland with Mattie Cagle, were not enough to pull out the Gilmer win.

Previously Gilmer faced Towns County with the “Cats” clobbering, as Gilmer won nine of the possible 10 matches. The boys swept 5-0 while the girls won 4-1.
