Blue Ridge, Georgia) – Georgia House Speaker David Ralston (R-7) defended his seat in the Georgia General Assembly tonight by defeating challenger Sam Snider, 65% to 35%. Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, Speaker Ralston made the following statements:
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to say ‘thank you’ to my friends and neighbors – the people of Fannin, Gilmer and Dawson Counties, for their confidence and support,” said Ralston. “I am honored beyond measure – and I proudly accept the Republican nomination for State Representative from the 7th District.

“Tonight, we will enjoy this sweet victory. We will draw encouragement from the judgment of the people of this district.

“But let there be no mistake – the message has also gone forth from Georgia’s hilltops tonight – downthrough its valleys, across its cities and plains and to its coasts – in a loud, clear, and unmistakable way: Georgians have said they are too busy reaching for the next level of greatness to wallow around in the cesspool of anger and bitterness and negativity. Just as they have said “yes” to the promise of a brighter day, they have said “no” to the politics of personal destruction.

“For tomorrow, the work begins anew. The people have spoken and now it is time to get back to the business of creating jobs, cutting taxes, cutting red tape, lifting up educational opportunities and doing all we can do to make sure that this remains the best place in the best state in the best nation on earth.”
